Wanted to get some feedback since I am most definitely not a paint guy. So I want to repaint the underside of my hood since it was awful to say the least. I have de-greased the entire underside and sanded it with 120 grit to rough up the surface. I plan to paint the edge area Can-Am white (my car color) for which I have a rattle can for. I also plan to paint the rest of the underside satin black as I understand this is the proper color.
I plan to wipe it down with a pre-paint prep and then lay on a primer.
1. Should I use a primer/sealer on this?
2. Can I use the same primer/sealer for both the black area and the Can-AM white area?
I don't have a spray gun, but I do have a garage and inhaler mask. I have no dreams that this would in any way replace a good body shop job, but as my daughter is getting married and I am currently in a kitchen re-mod, funds are scarce so rattle cans will
have to do. I also have new rubber moulding for the hood as well.
check instructions.. you will need to primer surface to fill those scratches…unless you go much finer..i would sand 320 orbital 400 hand…and shoot it…of course cleaning with wax and grease remover..use the wet cleaner to gauge smoothness…shoot it..flat black forgiving
If you are sanding for adhesion you are wasting effort.it will stick or not, purely sanding is a bandaid. primer is for adhesion, primer surfacer is for adhesion and leveling, sealer os…well..sealing and color hoding efficiency
