Default M22 Transmission Question

I own a 1968 327- 300 HP. The transmission after the Vin Number shows a M22 marking. The transmission

Vin Number matches the engine and the car. I have been told that the transmission was not offered for this trim. I will post pictures of the transmission and the engine Vin. Does anyone have an explanation. Thanks

Hello Frank and welcome to the forum.

Your trans is not an M22. The letters after the trans code didn’t start until mid 69 and the M22 was not an option for any engine other than the L88 in 1968.
