Default What full size oil filter?

I see that the original AC Delco part is now half size and people are suggesting just to get the truck sized equivalent if a full size filter is desired.

I'm in the UK and have to order on-line and therefore can't just walk into a parts store and ask for one for a Chevy truck - please could someone give me a AC Delco (easily available in the UK) model number that is full size and will fit my '81 small block?

Thanks in advance.

LT,

PF35 used to be the long filter, but they've been harder to find for several years. Maybe there are some near you.

edit - just saw that PF35 has been superseded by PF1218.

I use the Moroso 22460 oil filter. It is full size. It is 5.25" long if you can find another to measure and fit.
This one.......

Actually, It is the PF25 Delco filter that is OEM for an '81. I have been using the PF454 in my '69-'82s for years. It works fine. The PF25 is still available... Some are new retro and some are NOS... however, I am not comfortable using an old filter in my cars.

Yep; for a number of years, the PF25 was the 'short' filter for both big and small block passenger car applications. The PF35 was the 'long' truck-application filter, again, for both big and small blocks. Either filter could be used in either car or truck V8s.

At some point, the PF25 was discontinued and replaced by the even shorter PF454. It looks like the PF35 was 5.4" long, so it's replacement, the PF1218, is just a bit shorter at 5.1", though still longer than a PF25 (4.6") or a PF454 (3.8").

So, just to be clear, this one....

RockAuto has the PF454 for $2.80- I buy them by the case and do not worry about the "size". However, there is the retro PF25 for $7.22 if size matters. There is also a rebate on Delco parts and filters now.

LOOK!!>> Also- a good price on Valvoline VR-1 10w-30

Either will work.

Although I have no experience with the second filter, I’m certain that it will perform exactly as needed.

That’s okay,I walked into Advance Auto Parts to get my AC Delco oil filter for my 81 Corvette and this is what I purchased. Do you notice the Korean and Japanese wording? Has the USA sold their soul to the Asians? Maybe there are a lot of Asians that buy GM automobiles? Probably not.

This is an original AC Delco PF25 . It measures 4 3/8 inches tall (including rubber gasket)

Wix 51069 measures the same if you want one for an exact match for height.

Unless the car will be judged just use a good one.

I use WIX 51069 filters.

Post #8 here has some taller truck filters to try.

For those who have access to NAPA:

NAPA Gold:
1069 - standard filter (0.79 quarts)
1061 - long filter (0.94 quarts)
1794 - extra capacity filter and extra long (1.44 quarts)

NAPA Platinum (says they are designed for synthetic oils):
41060 - long filter (0.94 quarts)

I use PF25 filters, they are the OEM size -- I order them from amazon here
Amazon Amazon

The picture shows the blue filters -- I have never received the blue ones -- I always end up getting sent the new restoration style white filter. This filter is the OEM size and the one they send is even OEM style (although NCRS always finds something the deduct, original filters are pure unobtanium... at least for anything approaching a sane price, not that'd you want to use one). As for filter quality, I change my oil frequently enough that I'm not really worried, my typical interval is 2,000 miles.

Daily Driver.........drive 2,000 miles/change filter & top off oil...........2,000 more miles/change filter & oil.
The oil will still look decent at the 4,000 mile interval when you drain it.
(forget I said that....don't wanna start an oil change....you know..... )

...I also thought I once read that WIX makes the NAPA filters, or at least the NAPA Gold. The last four digits are even the same as the WIX 51069. I use these WIX filters too and I think they are still USA made.

If RockAuto will ship to you, most of the options above have been covered (1980 350 used as an example).

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...il+filter,5340

The ACDelco PF25, WIX 51069, and Hastings/Baldwin LF225 look to be the "proper" height. Others appear shorter, including the PF454.

I've bought a bunch of WIX filters for many different cars. It's a total crapshoot where the filter was made.

Many of them are made by WIX - air filters too. When you are on the NAPA item description page, scroll down to near the bottom and you'll see the manufacturer name and part number.

On the Wix box it reads "see product for country of origin".
This one tells you in French and Spanish it was made in the USA also.
