Default Ignition Switch
I need to replace the ignition switch on my 1978 Corvette. It is located on top of the steering column and I cannot access it. I thought I could drop the steering column by removing the two bolts under the dash which seem to hold it in place. However when I removed them the column would not budge. If anyone can advise it would be much appreciated.

Remove the two nuts where the column goes through the firewall. If that doesn't give enough room, then remove the bolts at the rag joint and just remove the whole column.
