Just need verification that the steering shaft portion does in fact collapse inward before I go and damage anything that I can’t undo. Also, obviously I can’t press on it using the wheel as the base or it will bend the rim…. So any ideas on how I can before I install it back into the car.
issue is, it’s protruding to far out that I’m unable to even bolt it to the fire wall to pry it back in as the splined portion makes contact with the steering gear input before any bolts can be used to secure it.
any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated!
The borgenson needs the end of the column collapsed for sure. Protect the spline and hit the end. DO NOT rest it on the steering wheel when you hit it
The plastic bits inside will shear and it'll go in fairly easy

thanks a metric ton! It’s holding me back but I wanted to ask to be safe than sorry. Don’t need to add finding a new steering column to the list lol.
I jacked up the splines trying to collapse my column in the car, but coudn't break the two plastic pieces. Vise stopped on the firewall mounting bracket is what worked. I had to fix the splines with a dremel. Here is the column collapsed (79 T/T). Totally worth the effort. The Borgeson completely transformed the car.
You guys do realize that the collapsing is a safety feature in case of an accident the column will collapse and not spear you through the heart. Just saying......
