Default Carburetor Question

1980 4sp

i was setting the choke on my carb, per my father in law’s direction, and noticed this screw had backed out. I think I put it back together right but I’m not sure what this controls or if I did it right. Can you take a look at these pics and tell me if it’s correct and what it adjusts? This is probably something I should know but I don’t. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

if the pics aren’t good enough I can snap some more tomorrow. I was in a little bit of a rush when I took them

thanks again!

On a cold start you want the choke plate completely closed. When the engine first starts the vacuum actuator just to the right of it will assist in pulling the choke plate open about a 1/4" to 5/16". The screw is used to adjust how far the choke plate does open. The 1/4" to 5/16" is just a starting point and when you find the sweet spot of the adjustment your engine will tell you so.

The round thing by the hose clamp and green wire is called a choke pull off. On the same side, there is a vacuum hose connected. I would disconnect the hose and hook up a vacuum pump. With the car cold, hit the gas once, to close the choke. Pump the vacuum pump to pull the choke open, and set to specs. This way has the added advantage of checking the choke pull off for a vacuum leak.
