Default 82 Radio install help

Hey guys,

great site. I've mined the threads here and think I have the wiring figured out on my 82 vette, installing a retrosound radio deck.

The speaker wires are easy to figure out. It's the other ones I'm not sure of, and I even have a Vette wiring diagram.

is this correct?

Car Wiring --- Retro Sound wiring

Orange, constant power --- Yellow, constant
Yellow, unknown (switched power) --- Red, acc
Yellow, unknown (switched power) --- Blue, antenna
N/A --- blue/white, amp
Grey, illum --- N/A
Brown, dimmer --- N/A

And of course, black to black for ground.

If this is correct, does it matter which yellow wires are attached to the red or blue radio wires? I find it odd that two wires of the same color would function differently, but you never know.

Thanks!

Tony

Ok, I answered my own question.

First, it appears that I have everything correct in the above. However, the two yellow wires are different. One is a kind of power IN to the radio, the other is a power OUT of the radio. Therefore the red wire needs to connect to the yellow wire that is hot when the ignition is on. The blue (antenna) wire connects to the yellow wire that has no power.

When the AM/FM is turned on, it must then pass current to the antenna, which is why it is cold when the ignition is on.

we'll find out for sure after we get her wired up.

Should be only one yellow wire for switched power and that yellow wire should be in the same harness with the (black plug) gray and black radio wires. That yellow does go to aftermarket radio red.
The blue antenna wire on the aftermarket radio is an output, do not apply switched power to it. That blue wire should go to the other yellow wire (power antenna relay).

exactly. Thank you for confirming. The blue antenna wire will be connected to the cold yellow.
