Default 58 Ouchie!

Saw this in the local paper this past week. Such a waste!

By Nico Portuondo

SPOKANE DAILY CHRONICLE

No one was seriously hurt in a three-car crash in North Spokane early Thursday afternoon, but the incident smashed a 1958 red Corvette.

Witnesses said a speeding Ford Escape ran a stop sign at the corner of Maple Street and Rowan Avenue and was Tboned by a pickup. The Escape was flipped on its side and then skidded into the vintage sports car waiting at the intersection.

The owner of the Corvette, Gary Keyes, said he had spent about four years working on his car and was just running an errand to the store. Next week he was supposed to deliver the car to Pendleton, Oregon, for an autshow. The car’s value is north of $100,000.

“I really wish I just went home,” Keyes said. “I’m just mad as hell.”

Police are investigating the crash.

Every classic car owner's nightmare!!!

I know those of us who drive our vettes a lot are always concerned about this sort of thing. My wife and I have decided that we have to drive like were riding a motorcycle - and assume everyone is out to get you. It's always been a bit bad, but it's certainly become worse the last few years - at least where we live. Texting, talking on phones, speeding, coming up to an intersection planning not to stop unless they absolutely have to, eating, combing hair, etc. I hope the schmuck who blew the sign had insurance, and I hope Mr Keyes beautiful '58 is restored to perfection. Stay safe out there. Sorry for the rant, but I feel better now. Be well, Paul

Rest assured texting was the cause of the accident. Although we can't rule out stupid as being an option.
Lets just run with texting while stupid as the reason.

I seen a red c3 get hit by a clueless teenager you ran a light once... I remember the being pretty pissed. the teen was like "whats the big deal its just a car" which did not help matters. My 74 has been hit twice since ive owned it which is crazy considering how many miles I put on my other vehicles and those never getting hit. Both times my car was hit, it was standing still. The last time a teen girl on her phone backed into me. I would have thought the bright orange paint would have helped deter that from happening but I was wrong.

"North of $100,000" Umm....I don't think so.
Even local news needs clicks nowadays eh?

That car can be repaired......sucks, but that is life.
As long as all were ok....that is what really matters. Most all classic car owners have insurance.....

Hope the repair goes well. I had a guy back into my car in a parking lot a few years ago, he had state farm. Long story short, I wound up paying for the repair myself. Worst insurance company evar.

i think it is being pulled upright by a cable from a tow truck. it is hooked wierdly under the car. i would have hooked it up higher. but maybe there wasn't anything to grab on without causing further damage and tow guy didn't wanna risk car owner saying it wasn't totalled until he bent the A pillar...

I don’t think those words have ever been uttered by any tow truck operator I’ve come across in my days. Usually there are three competing priorities during wreck recoveries. 1. How do i get out of here without getting hit by a passing motorist. 2. How can I get out of here as fast as possible (reason rule 1). 3. Im gonna do my damned est to not get smashed, crushed, cut, run over, and so on by the recovered vehicle (and see rule 1).
