Default 72 Alarm Question

Does the alarm work from the door ajar switches or are there separate switches in the door jambs. The reason I ask is that my 72 has two switches in each door jamb, but the AIM only shows a single door ajar switch. Thanks

The forward switches are the courtesy lights. You also have a SX stamped switch under the hood for the alarm (UA6 standard on 1972 cars) at the rear of the hood opening.

Hello Lark327. Not sure about the 72 but on my 69 the alarm works off the same switch that works the courtesy light in the front door jamb, not the door ajar light. On my 69 the door ajar switch is in the back of the door opening where the door latch striker pin is. I believe that the top switch in your picture has been added on and not from the factory.

As quoted from mbp: "Hello Lark327. Not sure about the 72 but on my 69 the alarm works off the same switch that works the courtesy light in the front door jamb, not the door ajar light. I agree, there should only be one switch on each side in that position; the alarm switches are in the door jambs, not on the hinge side. Are there switches there on your '72? How does the wiring look for the alarm, does it look unmolested?

Late 72 original car. Looks like yours is an owner add on.

I agree now. I have the switches on the door jamb and under the hood. But two on the hinge side as shown. They must have been added. Ill
dig deeper as literally everything is intact and works on this car except the alarm. I just want it to be correct. Maybe remove the extra switches and repair and repaint this front jambs. But not until I get the alarm working as it’s should. Thanks

Success! The alarm now works. The wires were corroded where they screw into the swith. Got it apart, cleaned and reassembled everything and works as it shoud;. Also removed those extrs switches in the hinge pillars and will glass in and paint.
