Any precautions to take other than keeping any water out of the carb when powerwashing the engine compartment? I never powerwash a warm engine and keep direct spray away from distributor.
Disconnect the battery first then bag the Alternator, Dizzy and carb and anything else electrical you want to avoid spraying directly. Then take some compressed air and try to dry everything as best as possible or let it sit for a few house before reconnecting the battery and trying to start. What is you goal? Just clean the engine?

Cleaning engine and engine compartment. What's a Dizzy?
A powerwasher can cause more problems than you want, its overkill to clean a well running motor with everything connected. If I pulled a motor and everything was loaded with crap, yes. There are several safe but effective washes you can spray on, use a car wash brush and hose off. Use a low shine foam tire cleaner/dressing - apply and let it dry, rubber and plastic will look new without that greasy - oily look.
Exactly. Nothing is waterproof under the hood. Water will seep through the firewall. All the delicate old wiring connections will corrode and you could damage your Starter, ALT and PS Pump.
Not worth it. Find alternative solutions.
Spray-can, Gunk Engine Cleaner, scrub + warm, no pressure, water rinse.

I don't power wash anymore. If you have just a sliver of loose paint anywhere. The pressure washer will find it and lift the paint. Unless that's the goal. I use a good degreaser and rags, it it's in reall rough shape I let it soak to loose it up and give it a good brushing. Once its dry I get under it and use the spray and rags again. Once its clean and pretty it's pretty easy to keep it that way with just soap and a water hose
