I’ve been having issues with my drivers side power window and in an effort to fix it, I replaced my motor and regulator along with all rollers. I’ve got the glass back in but I can’t get it adjusted right. Currently I think I’ve got the height and tilt right but my window is too close to the T-Top mount B pillar and I can’t open or close the door with the window up.
I tried adjusting it closer to the A pillar but to no avail even with the front vertical track
maxxed to the forward position. I can mess with the tilt and get the rear of the window to barely clear as open and close the door, but then the front edge sits too low and doesn’t seal. Any advice on what to do, it’s driving me crazy?
Open the door about 6 inches. Grab the bottom of the door and lift. If it moves up and down your upper door hinge pin is worn. A common issue with these cars but a pretty easy and inexpensive fix.
Cheers, Greg
So I tried moving my door and it’s honestly pretty solid. As I pushed up from the bottom edge there wasn’t much/any movement and the entire car shook with it.
I also tried adjusting it again and it seems like I can either make it so the glass clears when I open and close it, but the front edge is low, or I can make the top seal great but the window is at an angle where it won’t let me open or close it.
I have the exact same issue with my 68 coupe. I did not try my door pins but I did try adjusting my window. Didn’t work for me.
one thing I did notice on my car- it almost seems as if it’s related to the power window motor. Like if I hold the button down too long to close the window it VERY slightly kicks the window back and it hits. If I am careful when I put the window up and stop at the exact second it’s up it’s good
Theres a decent you tube video on this... I remember the guys name is Ben and the car was brown, then baby blue in his videos. he has a few. anyway it helped me with the passenger side... still fighting the drivers side. My bushings are new as I had them off when painting the car.
After many trials and errors I finally managed to get the windows adjusted in my 79. I replaced the door hinge bushes, the regulators, the rollers, the rubbers and about everything that was part of the mechanism and setup except for the tracks (one was bent but we managed to get that straight).
Subsequently, I had the opportunity to get to the US to visit the factory at the Bowling Green assembly plant and watched how the workers set the window glass in the doors .. based on how the factory does it, if I had my time again I would loosen the bolts, get a couple of glass suction caps to position the glass and have a friend inside the the car to tighten the bolts when it was correctly positioned (assuming there were no issues with the mechanisms
)

So I was able to work on it again today and I got it to a place I was ok with (not perfect but it was mostly sealed at the top) but even with everything tightened it seems like the window is still moving. I’ll have it clearing the B pillar when I open and close it, but if I roll it up and down a couple times the window goes back to hitting the side. Im still having trouble with it getting stuck on the weatherstrips going up and stopping short, but I lubed it and it helped. I also tried rolling it up and down with the door open and still saw it eventually move to a hitting the side position.
(It’s barely moving though, it’s going from just clearing by a couple millimeters if that to barely hitting it).
I’m just at a loss of what to do, I don’t get how one side can be so messed up when I’ve added a new motor, regulator, rollers, and weatherstrips, meanwhile my passenger side is absolutely perfect.
It sounds like you've checked and double-checked. It almost sounds like the actual glass mounting pegs could be loose on the glass. I mean, the glass isn't moving on those mounting bolts that tighten to the actual window ....are they? Might be worth a quadruple-check. There could potentially be quite a bit of glass movement if they were loose. Potentially more than other window adjustments could pick up slack for....
That's all I can think of at the moment. Or the regulator is moving when it hit's it's end-travel, and cocking out of position. It's really hard to tell w/o seeing.
So I think I gained some ground today. I got it to a place I liked and it was staying put and while giving me just enough clearance when opening the door. It was however, binding on the A pillar weatherstrip going up, so I took it off and it was then going up all the way. After I did this I unlatched the T-Top but left it on and forgot about it, and the next time I rolled it up it sat great and had plenty of room in the back. I honestly don’t know what happened but it started setting great with the door closed and T-Top latched down, but not so great with the door open. I figured out the forward height stop was a little high so when the door was open it was going a touch higher in the front and tilting. After I lowered and set it, I was seeing that same position in the rear every time and it sits great against the T-Top weatherstrip. So now I lubed the A pillar weatherstrip with silicone lubricant and am gonna set it in tomorrow so that it won’t grab on the way up but still seals and hopefully then it’ll be ready to go cuz right now the seal is great.
