I'm trying to decode a 78 that I recently inherited. Car is getting mostly redone and needs lots of interior and exterior work among other things. I've gotten to the point of bodywork and I've decided to go with Oyster white interior 79+. I'm trying to decide on the exterior as its getting new bumpers, needs a TON of bodywork, and full paint. I wanted to know what the trim tag decodes as its hard to see with the online decoders. The car honestly looks like a original white car but had been in an accident so who knows. It looks like a white leather interior with a black exterior paint? Not sure If I want to keep it white or change it up but if its a white car I would lean towards white on white and maybe go with a pearl.
They changed interiors in 1979 to the pace car design , so you will need complete seats , not just covers. I also believe that the oyster color is a little different than 1978. I have 1979 seats in my '78 and totally love the fit.
My 79 is black on oyster white. If you do repaint the car, it's a great look. Either way, the white interior is amazing. The 79 and up clamshells are much more comfortable, if you can find a set.
As said, the oyster carpet changed mid 79. Earlier (and 78) it was more beige. Later (and 80) it was more gray. My late production 79 ended up with early beige carpets, but that's fine.
These custom leather covers cost the PO of my car $2K (reusing the clamshell buckets). It worked out great for me, but, ouch. As with everything on these cars, you can save a bunch by doing the work yourself.

Yup, I have reupholstered 80-82 seats with tracks ready to go in. Got the 1979 oyster carpet and door panels as well as the 79 oyster dash. I've already dyed like 80% of the interior to the correct 79 color as well. I just need interior Ttop covers for the most part.

Yup, the colors are def different. The 79 color I got is more Creme on the Oyster white than the 78 color which is more white white. I already have the seats covered and an all new carpet. The seats I think were done in a vinyl leather like material by my dad like 15 years ago but they are the 78 white, I'm finishing the car for him after he passed but I decided to go with the 79+ color. So the seats will look a tad whiter but I'm fine with that. Most of the car is ready to rock interior wise but I don't want to put it back before painting as I don't want to risk the over spray. Next up is body work and color then interior is last. I'm def not going black... Ive had too many black vehicles and I'm done with that lol. With the white interior I think a dark bourbon red would look great or a pearl white just so its not a regular white car.
