That car is 42 years old. The current condition is what matters, especially rust in the birdcage, and paint (the two hardest and most expensive things to fix).

I agree, however, if you do feel the need to run a VIN check, try the DMVdesk.com. They have, or did have, the ability to run the shorter VINs. I used their service 3-4 years ago, when trying to track down a late 70s Trans Am that I used to own.
i tried one of those old car vin sites. it said my 75 was clean title good to go. problem is they won't let me register it until i clear the salvage certificate. so those sites, if using the same database as each other will all have the same incorrect info.

In my case, the info that I got, was somewhat limited. However, It did show some of the later ownership/title registration info, and I was rather happy to see that the car was still on the road, in good shape, and had limited miles put on it, since I sold it in 2001, to purchase my 'Vette.....
It won't have a 17 digit vin. Old cars have 13 or sometimes even less. A service like CarFax is totally useless when it comes to classics, even if they had the ability to run early vins. They won't be able to tell you anything more important than what your eyes will tell you.
I'm not sure, really ? maybe, could be, possibly, probably, definitely, ................... JUSTA JOKE !
Sorry man! I thought you serious. I’m thinking you might have some ripped off car!! That would not have been cool. There was that recent thread with the ‘69 that had the 3 in place of the S. I’m figuring so here we go again, another member with some messed up vin. Happy it’s not the case.

When I first got my car the "S" in EVERY 68 vin in the 7th place was on my reggie as a "5" & had to get that changed. Wasn't too bad but annoying, as is anything DMV related !!!

We must have gone to the same DMV clerk on the Island. I have the exact same problem with my 1995 Toyota 4x4 pick up. Bought new and still have it. They switched a S to a 5 in the VIN. I never told them or changed it back, it’s just been wrong for about 24 years….too much of a headache. If I ever go to sell the truck I’ll have to get it fixed. I don’t think I’ll ever sell it but it’s starting to come apart. Another project.

The problem on the pre 1973 NY cars - trucks as your aware, is the reggie & title are kinda one & the same & 100% must be correct or your going to have a tough time selling a pre 1973 car in New York . The reggie was / is transferable & there were no tittles pre 1973 in the state of NY.
