I have question about mounting the exhaust pipe onto the headers.
When slipping the exhaust pipe over the header outlet, should I slide the pipe until it bottoms out against the header exhaust outlet, which will secure the muffler within the pipe but this will also cause the pipe's mounting tabs to not line-up with the mounting slots in the frame or should I just use the mounting slots in the frame and cinch down the pipe wherever the pipe stops on the header? My concern is the muffler rattling in the pipe.
Muffler drops in first. The method varies and depends on the muffler brand to some extent.
Classic Chambered Vettepacks have tabs you bend out before dropping them into the sidepipe. They instruct you to bend out 4 of the 8 tabs. Just needs to be snug.

Which would be the tabs on the exhaust pipe, lining up with the slots in the frame?
I'm using Doug's muffler, so it just slides in. After a while, I assume the muffler will eventually corrode to the pipe anyways and that will hopefully keep it from rattling.
On my Dougs install a few years ago the mufflers had to be hammered into the side pipes. They were never going anywhere. Be careful that you dont slide the side pipes over the headers too far because if you have to move them back the headers will be forever scratched. At least that's what happened on my ceramic coated ones.

Unfortunately, I already slid them on past that point, so I guess I'll be taking the headers off for another paint job, of course, maybe while they're off, I'll just have them coated.
