Default Question about temp sending wire

I bought a spankin new temp sending wire from corvette central to replace my old worn one. I just soldered it on to the og wire and now my temp gauge is reading aprox 150 degrees when car is driven. Can this be due to too much resistance now when it’s soldered? Haven’t had any problems with it before

It is almost certainly not your soldering job, but you can check the resistance of the wire with a multimeter.

Willcox has a series of tech tips, some specific to your gauge/sender, here:

http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/c...re-gauge-info/

"Missing insulating washer on gauge" shows 150 F in the example photo. I don't know what that means though. You may want to also confirm your temperature with an IR thermometer.

Have you ever had the gauge working previously showing somewhat correct temperatures ?

the reason I ask is many replacement sender units are way off delivering the correct resistance at various temperatures.

As said Willcox have some great docs with info to check it out but in simple terms.

you can check the gauge is displaying correctly by removing the green wire and using resistors of various values from the green wire to ground and see if the gauge itself is showing correctly.

that will tell you if it’s a gauge problem or more likely the sender at fault.
