Default Seatbelt Issues Help

I have a 73 Coupe with the shoulder portion of the seatbelts that go through the top corner of the seat backs.
The issue I have is when I pull the seatbelts out to connect them they will latch and not pull out all the way so I can connect them.
They will do so after several attempts, slowly, and at the perfect angle, but most of the time they will latch and prevent me from connecting them.
I have been planning to have them restored but wanted to know if restoring the belts and the retractors will fix this issue or if I'm wasting my money on a flawed system.
For those of you that have had your retractors and belts restored are you still having this issue?
For those who have replaced your belts with new, did that stop the issue?
I asked a similar question in Tech/Performance but did not get but a few replies so I'm trying here.
Thanks, Greg

Hello
I have nothing to help with you with, other than to say I have a 73 with the same issue. I have to pull the seatbelt out up and slowly as to not trip the latch. The shoulder belt is the same way. pull it all out at once with enough slack to connect to the seatbelt. If I stop midway, I have to start all over again.

Yep mine is the same.
I’m on the fence as to whether I’m going to spend the money and try having the belts and retractors/latch mechanisms restored or whether to remove the oem system completely and go with 4 point restraints.

My ‘71 shoulder does the same. I’ve gotten used to it.

My 70 shoulder belt does the same as well. It can be quite frustrating. I would love to know if it can be corrected.

Charlie Santorelli at Seatbelt Sity (yes, its spelled with an S and not a C) restored mine for my 1974 and they don't do that any more. He is located in Bedminster, NJ and has been doing these for a bunch of years. He isn't cheap but he does a fantastic job. PM me if you would like to get his phone number. He doesn't have a web site to my knowledge.
Best regards,
