Hey folks,
I am redoing my cooling system of a pair of C3 Vettes, being in Arizona I have ALWAYS spring for the best thermostat. Because I have seen how a cheap Motorad can provide unstable temperatures and always knows Stant Superstat to provide rock solid stable temperatures…
well, look who sold out!!!
Stant is now putting Motorad thermostats in their Superstat boxes … made in Israel …
I am very angry with this! All our parts are coming back JUNK! All to save a nickel for the day man on top…
rant over!
I will be sending these back! And hunting for some old stock Robert Shaw or [Real] Superstats.
What's the story on Motorad ...not good? Sorry, I haven't replaced a T-stat in yrs. Enlighten me. Personally I never thought Stant was all that great either, for the times I've replaced thermostats ...even back in the 80's. They didn't seem to last all that long. Maybe it was just my few one-off situations. I always go with OEM or Delco when I need to replace items like that. But IDK what they offer for C3 stats nowadays.
I wonder if this has to do with the current supply chain issues. A couple of weeks ago I did an oil change on my pickup. I always buy Wix filters. When I opened the box, there was a little note on top of the filter saying something like "Due to the current supply chain issues, Wix is contracting with ABC Filter Company to build our filters. Rest assured that ABC is building them to the high standards that Wix is known for...". It wasn't ABC, just don't remember the name.
I really didn't like that. I already had the oil drained and no way to go back and exchange. The filter did NOT look like a Wix, so I think their little blurb about it being the same was total BS. There should have been a sticker on the outside of the box, not a note on the inside.

Thanks for the heads-up. For future needs or those not able to find the WIX packaged filter at their favorite parts store, WIX is the supplier of the NAPA oil filters. In the filter description you will find that WIX and the WIX # is called out.

This may explain what I observed the other day when changing the oil and filter in my Suburban. I always use NAPA Gold filters. When I picked up the new filter, it looked just like the old one but the filter socket I used with my ratchet to remove the old filter would not fit the new filter. Fortunately I had another socket that was designed to fit Bosch filters and it fit the new filter just fine. Hope the filter I got was as good as the old ones. Looked just fine but who knows?

my experience is 4 wheeling in the AZ deserts. We have hot summers and cold winters, close to freezing, the mountains get far below freezing … and looking at how the moto rad behaved in a few occasions, I determined that they’re crap. The needle would fluctuate cool to normal.
in my experience a Superstat from Stant was thicker gauge stainless steel, no plastic on the valve and a brass capsule. The needle would never move off of its set point unless I am really pushing the vehicle and just getting hot, (that’s a cooling system issue, not the thermostats). Plus the Stants were made in the US.
