Default Electrical Issues

Ready to put interior back together and came across a few electrical issues which I would like to fix before final assembly . Here is what i have going on now:

The Cigarette light and the lighter are not working. They were prior to disassembly. There is power to the lighter.
The light in the heater, A/C control is not working. Again was working prior to disassembly
The Door Ajar Light not working, was working before disassembly.
.
I believe that the cigarette lighter, cigarette light and control light might be a ground issue. I have grounded a piece of wire and touched tit to he cigarette light metal casing and everything except the door ajar light worked.

The only other issue is that the headlight control switch will dim lights on dash. However, when In car and I turn the switch completely to right, courtesy lights do not come on . I had thought that it was a bad switch, I bought a new one and have the same issue.

if part of the issue is a bad ground, how do I go about finding it?\\

Thanks for any help .. Vinnie

the cig case should have an inch or more copper ring wire or maybe a wire with blade
connector.

Do you smoke in your C3? I used this charger. The green glow complements the gauges, and it has a capacitive on/off switch. I enlarged the hole in my center console panel (plastic in 80) with a stepped drill bit. I used the stock 12V input and ground wires (and clipped off the ground ring).

Other issues, did you check all of the fuses? You might want to take them out, clean the ends, and stick them back in. Sometimes a bit of corrosion is all they need.

Turning my headlight k.n.o.b. all the way to the right turns the dash lights off, but doesn't turn my interior lights on, as I would have expected from other GM cars. If you figure it out, please let me know! Opening the door, or turning the key from ON to OFF will turn on the interior lights. YMMV in 80

No I don't smoke in it, just wanted everything to work properly. I like your idea, but it wouldn't work on the earlier C3's. the lighter is not directly on the console. It is in with the ashtray under a sliding compartment.

Does it not look like this (found on eBay). Other than having to enlarge a hole in pot metal vs. plastic, it would seem that it should work the same. It's even a reproduced part, so you don't have to cut up your original to experiment.

But if it is a ground issue, I'd start by cleaning that ground ring, and checking continuity. It may fix your center console lights, too.
