My '71 standard (i.e. non-tilt/tele) steering column needs some work. Nothing major...I'm just trying to shorten it for the Borgeson p/s box I installed, and it won't collapse due to the lower bearing being rusted to the shaft. At least that's what appears to be going on. I don't have the tools or experience to start tearing into this thing, and I don't want to make it worse by breaking anything.
Does anyone know of a good place in or around Fort Worth, TX where I can take it?
Corvette Columns in Canton, on the other side of Dallas repaired my column. Replaced the upper and lower bearings, replaced some worn parts with the tilt feature and corrected a couple issues with the harness. Very pleased with the work.
Well, I got ahold of Larry from Corvette Columns (index.html (corvettecolumns.com)) this morning, and he said he retired recently and didn't know of anyone else to refer me to. That's an FYI for anyone else who might be looking for column service, but also...I'm still in need of a reference if anyone knows of another source.
Thanks for passing along this information to us. Sorry Larry wasn't able to help you out. Good luck with your search. Hope it all works out for you.
