I just decided to take the C3 for a ride and after a couple of minutes had smoke coming from the defroster vents and immediately turned for home. Before getting home there were flames coming from the defroster vents, so I ran for the hose in front of the house and sprayed into the windshield and vents, etc. I believe the flames are all out (no smoke, etc.), but the car is still in the driveway, do not want to pull it into the garage and/or start it.
Does anyone know of a shop in Phoenix, preferably in the Chandler area, that I could trust to repair the damage? All that can be seen from the outside is the corner of the defroster vent were it melted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Make sure you've disconnected the battery, whatever was causing that issue was electrical (ok, possible the oil-pressure line leaked onto something electrical but still an electrical issue in there somewhere)

I couldn't watch your mov, but I do live in Gilbert next door to Chandler. Depending on what the damage is, maybe Vintage Iron in Scottsdale can help you out. Ask for Mark, the owner. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE IT BROMLEY'S CORVETTE...you have been warned. Do you have some picks of the damage?

I would have to agree with above, the most likely think I can think of is oil leak off the oil pressure gauge ran down onto the ammeter which is spun with very thin magnet wire and it ignited.

OK, thanks for the pics. I would call Vintage Iron, but I will tell you that they are booking way out right now. It's that time of the year here as you know and they are very busy. I honestly don't know any "good" shop in the east valley that I would trust with your C3.
In the mean time..remove vent start taking pictures with flash best you can or cheap borescope…
regardless of where you take it..being empowered with root cause will help communicate and or not get ripped off…
also what diy skills?
got AAA? Or a friend who does? Bunch of friends? Remove battery cables for now and push drag pull into garage..

WHATEVER YOU DO "DO NOT TAKE IT TO HIM"...UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNTS OF CASH AND STILL HAVE THE HAVE ISSUE AND MAYBE MORE. THEY ARE CLOWNS OVER THERE, NOT PROFESSIONALS...TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS, IT'S JUST NOT MY OPINION. Sorry about the caps, but this IS VERY important and I'm going to save you a ton of money and grief. Vintage Iron is an honest, fair place and won't rip you off. They have too much at stake to do that type of shady business. What year is your C3?
Looks like a 68 to me. I would, at the very least, open the hood a see where the fire started. It could be as simple as a grounded wire to the coil on the shielding. Pictures would be helpful. Good luck. Jerry
I'm going to go with a shorted wiper switch or wiring at that location. An oil fire would be waaay dirtier on the windshield, IMO. Also, I can't see a wiper motor fire crossing into the interior like that. The upper dash needs to come off before pulling other stuff apart to look down in there to see what's crusty.
