Default Engine swap- flex plate/flywheel differences?

In the process of swapping engines. 350/th400, new engine is a 350CT block with vortec heads. Went to install the old flexplate to the new engine and it wont fit, centre hole is too big and bolt holes wont align with crank. Any idea what is going on here?

About '87 all production motors have one-piece rear main seal; as well as other changes.

Older motors have a Larger bolt circle and newer motors have Smaller bolt circle; their flexplate/flywheel cannot & do Not interchange.

1955 to 1985 small block used a 3.58" diameter bolt pattern.
starting in 1986 was reduced to 3.00" to accommodate the one piece seal.

AHA, thank you! So I need a post 86 flexplate? I assume I can just get the same no of teeth as my old one? Will my old starter work or does that change after 86 too?

Check these numbers but I think this is what you want
Flexplate 14088765 (superseded by 10128412).

Per the info I have 14088765: 12.75" outside diameter with 153 Starter Ring Gear Teeth. NOTES: for 1 piece crank seal.

I also have part numbers for the 168 tooth flexplates but i don't think that's what you are looking for. I was researching this as I go to an automatic. Hope it helps.
