The Y indicates it was built at the Wilmington, DE assembly plant. Do you have the broadcast code that will help identify the type of full size Chevrolet the engine originally came from?
3970010 is a 350 engine and very common as Chevrolet produced a lot of them. K is St. Katherine’s, Ontario and 10 25 is October 25. CMR is a 74 350 145 hp 2 bbl carb originally came with auto transmission. Looks like it’s from a full size Chevy probably a Chevelle.
CMR was used for three different engines, the 74 2bbl 350 in Chevelles, the 78 Corvette 4 speed L82, and the 80 full size 305. As sullyman56 said, the "Y" in the VIN indicates the Wilmington DE assembly plant. Chevelles were built at Wilmington from 68-75, making that engine a 74 Chevelle 350/145 2bbl engine. Other than the 2bbl carb and intake, the engine was basically the same as the 4bbl 350 that was standard in the Corvettes of that era.
