Default Leather vs Vinyl interior

Hello. I am new to the forum. I have begun my search for a ‘78 with a leather interior. The posts I have seen that advertise a leather interior (seats) usually back it up with a picture of the trim/paint tag and the code is accurate. Other ads mention a vinyl interior (seats). From the trim/paint decoder that I have, there is no mention of a vinyl interior option. There are only leather or leather with cloth inserts. For example, code 192 is black leather and 19C is the leather with cloth inserts color code. If there is a vinyl option what should the trim tag show? Thank you in advance for all of your input.

Leather was standard in 1978. Cloth was an option (cloth inserts). As with most car interiors including current/modern, the seat faces are leather (the wear area). The sides and backs of leather seats are typically matching vinyl. The exception are a few very high end cars (ie: Rolls Royce) back then and modern cars with "full leather" options. Back to 1978 Corvettes......you will typically be looking at a leather (seat faces) with vinyl sides/back and vinyl on the door card inserts. The no-cost optional cloth interior is very obvious as the seat faces are cloth as are the door card inserts. As you know the trim tag shows what interior code it would have had from the factory. Never expect acccuracy when it comes to dealers (and even individuals) selling cars writing an ad as most aren't very knowledgeable about cars or are using an ad listing template and selecting "options" from a form which aren't correct for a 1978 Corvette.
You are on target about the trim codes.
