Under the drivers seat there is an electric something that is between the springs and the foam rubber (see pic) it has a two wire connector but it doesn't match up with the type of connector that is on the new wiring harness? Anyway, what is the electric strip used for? they didn't have seat heaters in '73 did they? and if it is a heater why is it directly against the foam rubber ? and if it is a heater, how is it turned on?
This is part of the seat belt warning system and should be installed on the passenger side. Because the seat bottoms are interchangeable, I am thinking they could have been swapped at some point.
I will pull out the passenger seat and look at it. Do you have any idea what the 2 pin connector is for that is on the drivers side? It comes off of the body wiring harness.
i will be looking into this further in the next couple of days. My seat belt system includes the shoulder harness strap that comes through the headrest on the seat. i believe that these are the original seatbelts. I had someone do some work on the car and they did a really poor job......that i'm finding out as i dig deeper into this. there is a seatbelt "Dispenser" under the seat but the guy may just not have hooked it up. There is new carpeting so he may have just covered it, who knows. With everyones' help from this forum, we'll get it straightened out.
Swapping the seats evens out the wear from getting in and out on the driver side. So when you’re checking that wear mark on the driver seat to help verify actual mileage, also check the passenger seat, on the inside.
ya cannot really swap the seats because the shoulder harness comes out through the headrest on the left side for the driver and the right side for the passenger. Somewhere along the line someone might have swapped the seat backs on the seat bases for some reason (maybe because of too much wear on the drivers seat base) but i don't know. I'll keep digging and will post what i find out. But it will take a few days.
O.K., i pulled out the passenger seat to see if it had been switched with the drivers seat and evidently it had not been switched. both the driver and passenger seats have the sensor underneath them. there is the correct wiring connector underneath the passenger seat, but there is an incorrect wiring connector underneath the drivers seat. I am going to pull up the carpeting and insulation and see if someone put the wrong connector in the wrong place.
I now have to study the books and look at YouTube to see how to disassemble the console pieces and dig into the wiring harness some more.
Thanks for everyones' help in this matter. MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Greg
Only the passenger side seat bottom had the pressure sensative switch shown in your picture. It was used to activate the seat belt warning light and buzzer. A few pics from my original 1973. Fran

Your seat more than likely could have come from a 74 or 75. The 73 didn't have the pressure sensor switch ( under driver's seat.....only under passenger seat!) as Fran noted above. However, the switch was added to the driver's seat starting in 74 due to the federal law that mandated an interlock system between the seat belts and the ignition. It carried over in '75.

My 72 did, or at least it has the cannon plug on the seat belt retractor for it and the buzzer won't shut off with no one in the seat.
