My 1972 is mostly original with newer paint (previous owner). My question is, I looked for the tank sticker today and found it. Seems to be very brittle. Should I leave just leave it there? Is there a benefit of having it in hand?
You will get many different answers. In my book, to have the information from it is important, especially on a pretty original car. Options are;
Remove it carefully and clean it carefully.
Clean it carefully and take pics and leave it.
Clean it carefully, take pics, and use an archival type plastic to cover and preserve it.
I would recommend either the first or third. It appears that some of it is already gone, and that will continue unless intentionally interrupted.
Love the silver!!!
No way will you get that off without destroying more..if glued
the glue on mine I couldn’t soften.
take many digital pics, post a couple in this thread, and i took a couple of the best pics to walgreens email print picture and then i covered mine with poster board loosely and put it back in…
some NON flammable brake cleaner helps..try on a spot..
Take down the tank and take pictures or video the process. Use a very soft make up brush to gently remove the dust. Then take pictures of it cleaned off and then try to remove. The other option is to remove the tank and preserve it on the tank and put in a new tank.
