Hi, I’m working on my ’81 and I can’t figure out why I’m not getting electricity to the where’s that are supposed to be at my horn. I’ve double checked the horn assembly and I’m pretty sure I have that built correct. If anyone could help I would gladly appreciate it
My horn wasn't working either. The Bubba who I bought it from mentioned that he had "worked" on the steering column. I took the horn button off and found that he had inserted the horn button's contact pin upside down.
I can only speak from experience - put 12V to the horn to make sure they sound before going further. I've just been down this very road.
Just finished working on it. And I made sure there was power going good like you had said and I got it fixed now. The owners before me had wires going everywhere from some cheap horns they bought and I had to order the whole button assembly. Thank you for helping out.
I could use some help on figuring out the easiest way to install this new windshield washer reservoir that I bought, as once again. These past owners took this out as well. Lol
Troubleshoot horn electrical problems like any other electrical issue:divide and conquer. First disconnect the battery. Now, disconnect the black lead (on my 69 it is black iirc) at the horn relay and connect your ohm Meter to this wire. When you press the horn button, this should show ground. If this does not happen, the issue is from the horn button to the relay. If this works, hook up the black wire and connect the battery. Put your VOM to read volts and place the VOM lead on the green (on my 69) lead that goes from the horn relay to the horns. When you press the horn button, you should see 12 VDC here. If not, then the relay is defective.
