Hi,
I've tried to search and did find several posts about the wood door panel inserts. Is there a way to clean the wood or would it be better to buy new inserts? I already have the door panels off the doors. Thanks for any help or insight you may have.
WOW! Thoughs look awful. Me, not a big fan of the wood panel inserts, I would delete them. But if you like them, get new ones, I can't see saving that one.
If I am not mistaken they were real wood so refinishing them would be like any other would.
Sadly I would assume that they were extremely thin so refinishing them might not be possible.
Just my thoughts. No personal experience however. Ike
If you aren't familiar with refinishing veneer, then find someone who is or opt to sell them.
I'm thinking the splotches are the result of worn away and degraded finish. A razor blade, used as a scraper, to remove the finish will reveal what the surface of the wood looks like without the finish and dirt. Then use fine sandpaper (180 to 220) to clean up the surface followed by an oil varnish.
I'd be interested in giving them a go if you're interested in selling them.

Went through similar situation. Have a stable full of Jags with beautiful wood work and wanted something different for the Vette. Recovered wood inserts with fake carbon fiber. Wasn’t sure how long it
would last as t tops are almost never on so constant exposure to sun, but after almost 2 years still holding up.
It would be possible to mask off what you don't want to sand and then sand off the old varnish/polyurethane. Then you could stain it any color you want, ebony would be near black. Then cover it with polyurethane again.
