So new owner here…
I have what I think is 1 of 5 produced.
Im trying to figure out exactly how rare my C3 is;
Tuxedo black, triple black, convertible , L71, automatic.
Am I wrong?
It says “LX” on the valve cover. “900” on the trim tag;
6500 redline;
One fuel return line; 7/16” rear sway bar, matching numbers engine ;
1. You car is over the top restored. (Neutral scale)
2. There are other ways to check authenticity....running the number all over the car, from distributor to manifolds and frame kick up. Document it all, plus it's fun! There are probably 25 numbers all over the car that add up to matching numbers.
3. You don't have to pull the tank...beg, borrow, or buy a BORESCOPE with camera attachment, slip the borescope in through the rubber catch basin under the gas flap....probe around looking for the build sheet.
4. Most likely it'll be on the drivers side forward. HOWEVER with such a obviously 'restored' car as this, it may be gone!
5.n I have a 69 convertible too...an L-46 and it seems to present as an early model....your date codes will tell you. One of the quickest to check is the bottom of the differential....should be BEFORE the manufacturing date.
Anyway nice car don't take it personally....People (including myself) get a bit pissy when your first few posts are about VALUE and MONEY... makes you come off as a flipper. We love, sleep and breathe these cars....flippers are disdained.
I can see by how you write...you are not a 'junior' anything....of course there are millenials that can afford a 60k car! But they type terribly, like they're texting!
Good luck, do some sleuthing ...build a provenance book on your findings.
LOVELY, LOVELY CAR, worth keeping for the rest of your life. (ps I've had mine for 45 years!)
They know how many 1969 Corvettes were made 38,762 Coupe's 22,129 Convertible's 16,633. L71 were 2,722. But they do not know how many were black exterior or black interior. It is a guess on how many were made with your combination.
Welcome to the forum!
Do you have any genuine documentation? Without it, it’s hard to know what you really have anyway. Black cars and L71’s are the most faked cars in the Corvette world. Reproduced paperwork, restamped engines, restamped trim tag, all great aspects of the hobby…..Hopefully yours is the real deal. Post some pics if you can. Sounds like a great car.
Your car is beautiful. Unfortunately, the trim tag is a repro. However, in today’s market your car is still in the ballpark of what you paid. You might have overpaid a little, but you didn’t lose your shirt.

if this is true and I have no doubt it is then save your time and money on having the car judged. Because if it the NCRS team leader confirms it’s repro your car will be deemed counterfeit and you will be asked to leave.
