Default 1979 Build Sheet retrieval

Greetings,
I reached my hand up the forward driver side corner of my fuel tank and can touch the build sheet. Is there a way to lower "just a little" the one side of the tank to remove the sheet? Its folded into 4 I believe. I don't want to drop the tank. Can I just lower the spare, and is there a mount that I can loosen or disconnect to get me about 1 inch of clearance up there?????
Thanks

There's probably a spot of glue that has kept if from falling off. Lowering the tub is a great start but you'll have to loosen the tank straps to lower the tank to access. Check gas gauge and burn some gas to get it as low as possible. Disconnect the battery when you engage in the project.

And then ask yourself is it worth retrieval? What will it tell you that you don't already know?

You are so right about that. I always went through the search and retrieval for nothing more than the thrill of the hunt. And it kept me off the streets and out of trouble.

FWIW: Contact the GM Heritage Center and see if you can obtain a copy of the dealer invoice for your car. The dealer invoice will contain the same information as the build sheet and will also include original dealer address and prices.

Great Pics thanks!
Well, My mufflers are off for upgrade and I did get the corner of the tank lowered. Then the tank shifted and closed off where my hand needed to go After an hour of wrestling a full tank back up and into position, I decided to wait. I did in fact get the top right corner of the sheet out with one last effort and it has the last 6 of the vin on it. I'm saving it for the rest of the page. as I don't want to tear it all apart. I will drop the tank when I run it empty. Leave my spare tire off and live "on the edge" for a bit.
The car is a 79 L82 4sp in dark green. Low number (under 2500 Dk green) production so I do want the sheet. I already have the Invoice I ordered and its all stock and legit. Not that the 79's bring chrome bumper money but it's special to me. It's my second corvette in a total of 53 cars owned to date. A little more than one a year. AUTO ADD. This is the only one I'm able to get a build sheet on.
Thanks

Budryzer.

Beg, borrow or rent a BORESCOPE with camera and SD card.
Push Borescope under the rubber gas tank catch flap (under the lid)
TAKE A PICTURE OF IT!
Better than removing it. (it may crumble to dust!)

"Hey! Its STILL got the original in the original position!"
