If you look closely, one steel lever on each end on the outside of the bracket is welded to the rod. So you cannot just slip the end assembly off of the rod. Those bracket pieces are aluminum, I believe, and could be welded by a very knowledgeable welder...maybe! But getting them straight would be very hard with such small pieces. Lou.
