Wishing a happy birthday to my 1972 coupe, built 50 years ago today. I ordered it on December 7, 1971 and it was delivered to the dealer on January 27. I picked it up March 2, waiting for winter to run its course. The only options were LS-5 engine, 4-speed transmission, power brakes, and AM/FM radio. The car is all original except for side exhaust, ordered direct from GM and installed in 1978, including engine and transmission, (neither have ever been out of the car or opened up), paint (100% original), all chrome, trim, glass, interior, and wheels. Tires are bias ply reproduction Goodyear Speedways that match what was on the car when delivered. I still nave the original spare. Current mileage is 48,317 and it now sits in its winter home patiently waiting for the summer driving season to start
Yours was built quick! I ordered mine on 1/10/76 & it wasn't built until 4/29/76...
Thank you and congratulations on your 46 year ownership. 50 will be here before you know know it. I'm not sure what would cause such a delay between the time you ordered your car and when it was built. Maybe there was a strike or something at that time. When I ordered mine the dealer said from 6 weeks to 2 months and they were right on.

My dealer said about four months. I was 18......man that was a long time!
No strike, but I bet it was just the numbers. Production went from 27k in '72 to over 46k in '76...
