Default Door Switch

I could not find a write on how to replace this switch. It is really bent and pushed in. Do you know if it easier to just pull and cover the area or can you replace the area somehow. Its on a 76 Corvette

I think I did do a write up on how to replace it.

In the case of this one, you need to remove the access panel in front of the rear wheel well. 4 small bolts. Then tie a string to a popsicle stick and slide it up and through the bolt hole you have showing. Tie up another bolt around the string to use as a stopper on the outside side of the car. Then drill the rivets to remove the backing plate. It looks like you only have the upper one to drill as the lower one looks totally broken. Once it’s loose, remove the string dragging the parts through the (inside of the car) access hole. Repair the fiberglass. Drill or cleanup the new holes. Order a new door switch backing plate. They are really inexpensive. Install the new plate behind the fiberglass using the reverse of how you took the old broken one out. In other words, tie the backing plate around the string, push the popsicle stick through the door ajar switch hole. Line up the backing plate holes with the fiberglass holes and rivet it in. This last step is easier with two people but I did it by myself.

I have pics of how I did mine, just not with me at work. It literally took me 20 minutes to put the new backing plate in but I didn’t have to repair any fiberglass.

I just did a search and saw you asked about this in September. I see I responded with basically what I said above. Maybe that’s what I was thinking of when I said I did write it up. I thought I had did one with pictures too but I couldn’t find it if I did.

Trim the plates, or make your own just 3 holes and a tap.

just did that to mine, not easy at all.. after removing the panel I cut a hole to make it quite a bit easier.

Here is a pic of mine when done. Start to finish it took me about 20 minutes if you do it the way I described above.
