Default Lock out transmission

Ok,my recently purchased 1981,is original,so computer carburetor,which I’m thinking of putting a older model carb and distributor,and will also attempt to put on long tube headers,my ? Is if I understand correctly that the converter has a lock out on it,which I’m assuming is related to this computer,so if I swap the carb and distributor,how can you bypas the lock out. Thanks

You should keep the LOCKUP
Vendors sell the lockup kits for less than $100. Buy a quality kit so the trans will not "hunt" for lockup.

Once it is disabled it acts like any pre-1981 TH350 trans......
But, as mentioned.....if you can make it work....you should.....it is worth a few MPG on the Highway......

When I installed the 200-R4 in my 73 I bought a

B&M 70244 Converter Lockup Controller, GM Auto Trans

I set it loch at 45mph. This was back in 2002 and I have not had any issues with it.

And curious is this a lock out for security to keep someone from stealing it or for safety so you don’t hurt or break transmission.

The term is lock up. The transmission has components designed to lock up the torque converter at certain speed for gas mileage savings

Ok now I’m confused,lol...which isn’t hard,so has nothing to do with transmission converter,correct when it says converter,you’re talking Catalytic converter,if that’s the case,someone replaced the pipes years ago,so catalytic converters are gone.
