Default Hood Scoops - What You Got?

I'm getting ready to install some performance mods (heads, cam, intake, carb, headers, etc.) and will be cleaning up this mess under the hood. The stock air cleaner has the two hoses going to the radiator support for supposedly cooler fresh air rather than hot under hood air. Not sure how well it actually works but it is ugly. I would like to replace it with a higher flow air cleaner but don't want to be sucking in the hot air so I'd like to run some sort of hood scoop. I have no problem with cutting a hole in this hood or replacing it completely.

I'd like to see you guys that have installed scoops. Thanks.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder
that factory cold air works great, especially in the winter for preheated air.

The L88/ZL1 hood is the best looking hood for a C3 if extra clearance is required. Really like this one on a small block car. I have a couple questions. Does the L88 cold air box line up for the small block or is modification required? Also, how is the filter installed and retained in the cold air box?

Might be fugly , but works damn well. No high flow you can buy will work better. No ****.
That said, I run a chrome air cleaner and deleted all that crap for the same reason. Didn't like the look. Myself, I really can't feel a deference.
I run a vented High rise hood.

Many vented hoods look like an afterthought.....your hood looks GREAT!

This is only a 2" rise even though the camera makes it look like a 6" rise..............

I copied his idea..........

pretty much the L88 or stinger are the only 2 acceptable ones. i mean you could put a mach 1 or gto scoop on there. hell could use 1/4 of a home depot paint bucket... but those 2 are considered the only acceptable ones. i would like to do an SS version with the 68 camaro-chevelle hood "vents". hell, it already has the hidden headlights. i guess SS-RS...

Hey Paul, iirc i had to move the inlet and inch to accommodate the small block. as you know the centerline of the carb from a big block to a small block is different.
The filter is held in by friction, i believe thats a k/n forever filter 14" maybe?

Did mine a little different. Wanted to get a 4 inch air cleaner under mine, so I raised my L88 hood in the front, where the interference is and left the height the same closer to the windshield. Then, instead of mounting the L88 air chamber to the hood, I riveted the the air cleaner base to the chamber and am using it as a cold air box. Works great and totally seals off the engine bay heat from the intake air. I now have a 4 inch air cleaner under there.

Unless you are using an L88 type cowl induction any raised type hood scoop will get no more cooler fresh air then what you already have unless it is extremely high. Most of the old factory type “ram air” hood scoops were not effective like novice buyers thought and were really just fo looks. The 65 and 66 BBs had a side vented hood bubble that was for height clearance for the BB and the vents serviced for EXHAUSTING hot engine compartment air. From 67 on the only cold air system offered (other than what you have) was on the L88s as there is a low pressure area at the base of the windshield as proven by wind tunnel aero dynamics.

Here is an odd one. It came with the car so don't know much about it. Small blower with side draft carbs. The height is needed.

There are some good ones here. I was kind of thinking more old school drag race style like these.
