Default Spare Tire?

I have a C5 and they didn't come with a spare. They had run flats instead but pretty much everyone including me, dumped the run flats in favor of better riding tires. I don't really worry about getting a flat. I use the car occasionally for fun drives on the twisty mountain roads around here. I have AAA so if I do get a flat by some chance I'll just make a call.

So, I'm thinking I might loose the spare on my C3 along with the jack and lug wrench. Should save some weight. Anyone do this? How much weight did you save?

I haven't had a spare for years. I don't do any distance driving anymore & I have Hagerty roadside 45 minutes away.

Weight wise I put my Rally/Firestone 500 spare on a scale once. A whopping 58 lbs...

I ditched the spare on MG and the Vette. AAA and a backup sealant instead. I used to carry Fix-a-flat until I came across my "Project Farm" guy. Now I carry around some Slime. Here is his review if you are bored and have 15 minutes.

I carry this and a small inflator/airpump. Saved a lot of weight ditching the spare and the surround that went with it in excess of 50lbs.

I think its time for me to give up the spare tire. I bought one from Modern Spare for my 18 SS camaro, and it fits my C7. I hauled it for 65,000 miles in the SS. Never used it once.

I forget the official name of those spare tires that collapse completely inot thr rim when stored. Does Gm make one that fits the C3 bolt pattern?

All depends on what you want, I don't want to potentially wait several hours on the side of the road for AAA.

I carry a spare, the performance loss is minor on the street and not worth the trade off for me personally. I carry Slime kit with compressor as backup.

To each his own,

I remember similar threads here years ago and all the doom/gloom saying the spare was an integral safety part of an rear end collision.
Despite that, I ditched the spare years ago. Especially since going to different size tires and having to play musical tires depending on which tire went flat because of the posi unit. Currently on 17" tires, carry a small 12V compressor/patch kit and have towing thru Hagerty.

No spare on my ‘Vette. I also have Hagerty towing, but the one time I used it was a seven (yes, seven) hour wait.

You can save 5 grams of wallet weight if you take a picture of your AAA card and store it in your phone.

If you have a patch kit and an inflator that's all you'll need, unless you have a blowout. I've never had a blowout yet, 37 years and counting.

This is what I do on long trips. Many cars come stock this way now. Patch kit, slime, and a DeWalt 20V inflator.

For once, the related thread is actually ... related:

Well, I ride motorcycles too. Not really worried about getting hit. Plus, I live in the boonies and there isn't much traffic around here. In fact in the valley I live in, there isn't even a traffic light.

May I ask a question? I do not have AAA. Some have you mentioned you do. What does AAA do if you have a flat and no spare? Take it off, bring it to someone who can fix it (if repairable)?

I do not have a spare. Unlike most owners here I run 255/40 ZR-17 in the front and 335/35 ZR 17 in the rear. I like the idea of carrying those little brown plugs and a compressor.

I just assumed if I got a flat, I would call Hagerty, and they tow me home. But a 7 hour wait seems excessive.

i would think a tow at that point if it will not hold air .
aaa is not perfect but i like that if you are a member youcan get ANY car towed not even yours as long as you are there. Family freinds stranded call aaa go to scene done.
i max out my aaa as kid in college seems to be very helpful to others on his aaa family plan .
max plan also is 250 miles of needed before mileage is charged..
