Chewing gum
I have my heads, intake, carburetor and distributor off my car, going back with everything new,all Edelbrock but wanted to clean and smooth my block assembly so my new heads will fit perfect, only problem is the motor is still in car,and have all these holes to cover, big holes can push a rag in them, but didn’t know what to plug the small holes with, and considering Inchew a lot of gum, stuck them in the holes, old pieces dried out worked perfect.

tin foil works good as it conforms and is easily shaped but dont use a power tool that can rip it apart and send the pieces down into the block.
Or rubber corks if you have a hardware store nearby

Shop Vac in one hand and a scrapper in the other. A 1/4" angle grinder with a red scotch brite Roloc disc will make the job a piece of cake.

Grease packed around piston rings. Paper towels and a shop vac. And don't forget to clean each and every thread so the sealer on your head and intake manifolds has a chance of sealing.

i've used those squash-able foam ear plugs on job with lots of small holes, squeeze / roll them, push them in the hole, they expand to fit.
great for cleaning and painting.
