When I bought my car I got the cigar lighter working and it smelled of old style cigars. I wish I could find that as an air freshner. It remionds me of my favorite uncles.
I painted my ash trays inside with “chrome “ paint. First I used a rust encapsulator and then I put on a few layers to cover it.
Looks nice and it’s original. Very difficult to see anything was done to it. Remember these cars were made at a time when ashtrays were actually used.

Hey Ike, I don't think I've ever seen a thread about ashtrays. I haven't seen mine in decades so I slid the door back this morning to check it out. Doesn't look too bad. The original owner and myself were non-smokers, I know it hasn't been smoked in during the 47 years I've owned it. I've never tested the lighter....I had a bad experience in 1954 when I was a stupid 4 year old.
My dad left my brother and I in the car while he went into the store. Well, we took the lighter out and burnt round circles in all the plastic window frames and the seats. It looked cool when it smoked. DOH!
