Default Headers

I bought these cheap valve covers, temporarily till I decide if I want my stock ones or nicer than these.

But it is coming together, starting to look like a motor again.

I put headers on one side the drivers side, they went on pretty good, but the passenger side with the starter and wires in the way is another story.

You chose a good carb. I have an 800 on a little 383 and it screams. It is a bit much for a 500 horse motor but after a little tuning, it's all good. Don't sweat the small stuff (valve covers) because you have also chosen a good intake. Valve covers won't make it run better but the carb and intake are winners.

As for the passenger side header not fitting, not an expert but maybe a mini starter will give enough room?

Yea,will get some better pictures, but did get one side on,barely, but now see other issues now, first as I can tell, all the plugs except #1,is right on top of the plug, and possibly get a elbow type plug wire on it,but, think it will still touch header even then, these new heads Edelbrock the plug holes are straight not slanted, which would be better, and also the treaded hole on this side, which is suppose to be my oil temperature switch and my switch on my stock heads is 3/8 hole, the hole on these Edelbrock heads are I think a 1/2,but is bigger, and header might be in the way of it.if it was a 3/8 hole would be no problem.as far as the plugs,I had just replaced my plugs before I tore the engine apart, but these heads require a different spark plug, hadn’t got them yet,but hopefully they are shorter than my stock plugs, because they definitely can’t be longer.and any idea what type of insulation to put around plugs and boots, especially around header tubes. Thanks

The plug eddy calls for is shorter and the threads are twice as long as stock so will screw deeper into the head.

So,with these plugs,I will have enough room between headers.

Headers are tight and look much better now, that it’s on.
