I was curious since I have Hagerty.
I wonder how they would look at, for example, a fender bender in the pits. Obviously, hitting the wall going down the track wouldn't be covered but I wonder if they would weasle out of a crash in the pits.

I use NCM and used to have a 'rider' for commuting (when I was commuting) and out-of-state driving, which covered about any driving circumstance. It's great peace of mind. But they seemed to be (at the time) sticklers for giving me real value of my car. If you truly read through most collector car insurance line by line (which I have), most contracts state something along the lines that coverage is primarily for going to car shows and the occasional drive, and have a number of *potential* gotcha exclusions for like parking at hotels overnight, locked garage, out of state trips, driver that isn't you, and, yes, commuting. That includes NCM insurance.

I personally haven't had a claim with NCM (I believe is underwritten by American Modern Ins), but I know two guys, and have talked to others who've had multiple Hagerty insurance claims over the years which Hagerty handled pretty much with no questions asked. They pretty much had the owners fill out a form detailing the incident, in not very much detail, the repair costs, etc (so they could log the event in their records), but didn't follow up with any detailed questions or hint of suspicion. And these were in circumstances where had detailed questioning been done, could have possibly been denied the claim had they wanted to adhere to the strict letter of the contract. Therefore, I've concluded over the years there's a lot of wiggle-room in CC insurance. They write the contract up which contains a number of exclusions and guidelines, but there seems to be, at least with Hagerty, somewhat loose questioning and policing on claims (so long as they're not agregeous). If you have a claim, be vague. That's what I've *observed*. Soooo ...it makes me wonder if ya even need any special riders.

I'm one of those guys who reads every sentence and tries to stay within the guardrails. But my buddies I bet never looked at the contracts ...and they just go about their business and driving as if they had regular gold-plated bumper-to-bumper coverage ....somewhat ignorant of the contract details and exclusions. And so far, when they've had claims they were never turned down. Makes me wonder why I even paid extra for those commuting riders in the first place.

My brother drives his classics as DD's too. Somehow he has gotten really good prices from Am/Fam for his classics which he claims don't have any restrictions. At least that's what he *says*. I haven't read the coverage details and he hasn't had any claims either. He drives his like he would a normal DD car. IDK how he does it, how he's gotten the prices he has. The quotes I've gotten from AM/Fam were kind of high, but you might try them also.

At the time NCM was the best deal, but for peace of mind, I'd give Hagerty a strong look just based on experiences of guys I know real well. Plus they put out a nice classic car publication (or online) every month ...or they used to anyway.

Love to hear other guys' experience.

I recommend Hagerty as well. I’ve only had one claim and that was handled with no questions asked. I had a check in my hand within 5 days of the claim & estimate from the shop of my choice.

Insurance is a funny thing: I've asked people whom I know ...about certain insurance questions (at graduation parties, or other family neighborhood gatherings), to get a sense of what others were doing and if there were new/better programs out there. I've concluded if you ask 10 people detailed questions about their car insurance, you might get 2 (if you're lucky) who can tell you with any real detail what theirs includes ..and even what they actually pay per year. Most people will tell you (and these are people I know well), "I just go by what my insurance guy says...". And what I've seen/heard is the majority pay monthly bill that comes in the mail or online, and don't dig into the coverage or details beyond what vehicles are (or are not) covered.

So, I guess, when selecting insurance for your CC go with a good company who has a good reputation for processing claims. Because CC contracts include a lot of specific exclusions which (if they wanted) *could* potentially exclude a lot of pay-outs. (but they don't usually do that) Note: These are *observations* not insurance advice

The question I have is: Does anyone know people who've been denied a C/C insurance claim ..and if so, by which company? What were the details?
