79 speaker wiring question

I know the new one was positive..
i am brain cramping on which color wire was positive in car..
i took a 9 volt and when it bowed out with power deducted that tan B left was positive and lt green right B was positive..
http://turnswitch.com speakers great but needed to grind the side to fit a 79..
all done.

What happens if you hook the wires wrong?
I'll guess that the speaker would sound bad!
Can you temporarily test them before you mount them?
