So I have been trying to find some completed auction or sale info on 70-72 (really 71/72) LT-1 cars and I'm not finding a lot of info on actual sale prices but asking prices seem to be up. Hagerty's valuation tool which had been low when I looked a few years ago seems high to me now, 72 coupes, #1 $86k #2 63k #3 38k #4 23k. (that is without adjustments for options, I know the late 72 a/c cars pull a premium).
Anyway, what is everyone seeing? I'm wondering if I should up my insurance agreed value or even consider selling my 72? And since we all love LT1 pictures... I would call it a good #2 condition car. Not NCRS ready but it is numbers matching, a few accommodations for reliability, dewitts radiator, gmpp alum water pump etc. but I have all the original parts too.
I would agree that their values seem to be higher this year, which is a good thing.
Regarding those valuations from Haggerty, the #1&2 cars do seem high for a ‘72, I would more likely expect that for a ‘70.
But who knows, maybe they have really gotten that healthy. BTW, your car looks really nice.
Don’t sell.
LT-1 values for super clean original cars have sky rocketed! I've been closely following this, as I have a 1971 Bridgehampton Blue LT-1, that is unfortunately not super clean and original lol
A 72 LT-1 Coupe with AC Sold on BAT a few months back Gor 81k
72 LT-1 with a/c has always commanded big jump in price since they only made about 240 of them.
I agree, I think all C3 prices are trending up. I do not know if the LT-1's are being more sought after or if you are just seeing the effects of inflation. If the economy crashes, I would guess C3 prices would come down because of less play toy money available; BUT, I am usually wrong, LOL's!
I looked for an LT-1 for two years before buying my 72 a couple of weeks ago. Over that period prices definitely trended up. I have not seen a decent driveable one under the mid thirties in a while.
I got lucky and found one with all original drivetrain, immaculate interior, super clean and well sorted mechanicals, and driver quality paint for $37k. Patience paid off!

Sounds like a great buy, now we need some pictures!
In my experience, 1970 LT1s are the pinnacle (and first year) of LT1's and command the highest prices. All LT1's of the era (70-72) are cool, but the '70 is the most valuable of the bunch because of the highest/unrestricted horsepower rating, and also having the lowest production numbers of all three years.
I've been pricing them over the years, and the 70's tend to sell for approximately 40-65K depending on condition/documented history. 71-72, maybe 10k less than that for cars in each condition range. Anything higher than that generally takes a long while to sell. There are always exceptions, however. I'm talking in general. Basket cases and full restorations can be had for much less than 40k, of course...
The ones that are being offered at 100K plus don't sell. - you can ask whatever you want for a car you're selling, but doesn't mean it's worth what folks are willing to pay. Not when there are big block cars for sale in a similar range as the LT1's. Love it or hate it, big blocks are the big kid on the block, and are generally what buyers look for if they're going to spend that kind of money. LT1's are not there yet, but will likely be there some day, IMO. LT1's are darned sweet. Also, keep in mind, we may be on the cusp of a recession, which isn't going to help prices in the foreseeable future.
BTW, gorgeous color - Bryer Blue is so deep.....

BAT has both a very nice '69 427/390 vette along with a nice '70 Z28 auctioning right now.... Will be interested to see which gets more.... The camaro is leading now but it is early in both auctions....
ZL1… good points, 70 has and always will get the premium due to the hp bump and justifiably so. Add to that fewer made in 70 also. No octane concerns on 71/72 at least, and I give 72 a few points because you can verify the LT1 status in the vin #. (But I’m biased owning a 72)
thanks for the compliment on the color, but it’s Targa Blue. Dan

My mistake. That's right. Bryer is lighter, more aqua. Anyway - amazing color.

Possibly but it really kind of depends on what that agreed value is now? I'd be curious as well for my NOM but pretty low miles and ownership 71 LT.

FWIW Hagerty doesn’t seem very concerned about the value you want to agree, as long as it’s not outlandish. I put mine at 50k and the premium was only $150 more per year than for a value of 40k

Yeah I'm going to increase it from the current 40k to 45k or 50k. I think I'd be hard pressed to find a numbers matching LT1 this clean and with good paint for less.
I went through this last month with my insurance renewal. Regardless of what anyone thinks your car is worth, you can add a higher agreed value to your policy for a little extra money so you should do it.
I added $40k in agreed value for $180 a year. Money well spent in my opinion even though most people on this forum think our cars are worthless.
