Does anybody know who still manufactures windshields for C3 Corvettes?
I'm considering buying a replacement but am hearing a lot of bad news regarding quality coming from the remaining manufacturers.
Pilkington would be my first choice but they dropped out of the classic car business a few years ago.
It's my impression no windshields are manufactured in the US any longer though ZIP says the one they offer is made in the USA. Odd...
I just received a windshield manufactured by XYG, waiting for the shop to evaluate it.
So far I'm told it is NOT the OEM thickness which may cause fitment issues.
Also hear this brand has problems with distortion, poor wear, general quality issues.
Any recommendations?
I can find a good installer, just need a good source.
PGW is an option. Still is an import. I believe only one place in Taiwan manufactures old car windshields anyway. They just change the logo or don’t put one on. That’s how you pay extra for an OEM-like logo. (Pittsburg Glass Works a spin off of dis-assembled PPG.)
Have you tried Auto City Classics for a windshield quote?

I used a chain glass company called Binswanger near Atlanta, Ga. about a year ago, that still does vintage cars. They called around and found a Pilkington windshield in a warehouse somewhere on the east coast. Maybe you can get lucky, have you called around to wholesale suppliers?
I just installed a windshield from Auto City Classics, it was their budget version. Made in China by Beoson. Yes, Much thinner than the original. My biggest issue with it was the curvature was not correct. It was low on the sides and high in the middle. Had to double up on the butyl tape in the middle. In the end it turned out nice, but a lot of dicking around to get it to set.
Now I also bought Auto City Classic door glass, but the version with Astro Ventilation script. The thickness was identical to the originals and so was the fit. Also made in China, but by a different company.

Thanks for the info. I bought a windshield from a local supplier, waiting for the shop I deal with to inspect it. It’s an XYG windshield which seems to have a bad reputation for being wavy, distorted vision.
Seems it may be impossible to avoid glass made in China. Then becomes a matter of finding the best available.
What do you mean by budget version? Non date coded? I talked with someone at Autocity Classic a while ago. Think there’s a different windshield used when date codes are requested.
Was the Astro Ventilation script correct? Right color, side, and position?
