Saw this ad for an early 68 frame without the kickup braces that were added on late 68 and 69+ frames and seller says it is interchangeable with C2 frames.
I know 68 frames had a different radiator support setup than 69+, and I had heard that C3 frames were similar to C2 frames, but is an early 68 frame really interchangeable with a C2 frame?
The rear of the frame on a C-2 is totally different. Check pistures. Also all of the body mounts have to be different. The 68 front frame horns may be different also. Lou.
Common practice to take a C3 frame and graft the rear of a C2 frame onto it. I would personally prefer to not go that route but sometimes you got to do that if no C2 frame is available, or your budget doesn't support a good used C2 frame. I think the C3 frame needs to be 68 to 74, could be wrong on that.
first you drop body on, stand back and look and measure. then you stack big washers on the mounts that are supposed to be higher. then you see how far off some mounts are when it is sitting on other mounts. if Lou is right it should sit ok on the other 3 and give you a measurement to offset #2. then compare the measurement you got to what the book says. then you decide if you are gonna resell the frame or start modding it. edit: i looked at the ad. i don't see 3k value in that frame if it is the correct week 68 you want it for. i assume you have a mid year needs a frame?

Thanks for the leads, but no, I already have good frames for what I need now. I was just surprised that the seller claimed this early 68 frame was interchangeable with the C2 frame. I had been told that they were similar but I did not know they were interchangeable. Much thanks for all the educational responses and good to know you could make the C3 frame work with a C2 with some mod's if you had to as a last resort.
