Door spring removal
Is there a safe way to remove a door spring, without removing door? I’ve watched videos of the install but none of the removal. I’d rather not remove the door if possible.
Easy to do when you have the hinge in a vice, not so much when it's on the door. If you are changing the spring, chances are that the hinge bushings are bad. Might be a good time to rebuild the hinges. The complete kit is available. Not that hard. If you want to do both doors you can use the old springs, just change the RT to the LT and visa versa. You will have to grind a new slot on the other side of each spring. I tried to remove the spring on the car and couldn't do it. It was hard even with the door off.
My door removal setup.
It’s should be a two man job . If you don’’t have a shop with proper equipment or free friends to help laying around. So I took it to mechanic shop , they put new bushings and spring in drivers side . They have several set of hands to hold everything . 50 dollars . Done ….no sweat , worth not have the headache .

They put bushings in without taking the door off or separating the hinges? I would remove the hinge from the door side when doing new bushings. When the new bushings are installed there will be a small difference in how the hinge lines up between the two halves,,,,,, and also how the upper and lower hinges line up. If you don't remove the four bolts from the door when installing the hinge pin, there could be a bind. Just mark the four bolt location in the door before you remove them.
You know exactly where the bolts go. If your door needs adjusting,,,,, snug them all up so they are just tight enough to not move,,, but you can still bump the door to adjust a bit. Then don't slam door. Make sure the pin on the frame will slide correctly in the door when closed, if not you will bend something. It should click in real nice.
If your gaps are not correct you can move the door,,,,, then adjust the pin to match the door.
