As crude as it looks it works. I wouldn't have used a gate valve though; a small ball valve works better. The c3's had them in line with a cable operated valve.

Yes, vacuum-operated at least it is on my '78.

If it runs what's the problem, might not be perfect, but might be work in progress!

That gate valve would be one of my lesser concerns in that picture.

What? Are you potentially taking issue with that lovely fuel line and filter? And ya just gotta love the way it's routed! Or perhaps you noticed the plug wires laying right on the headers? Although you could be looking at the wonderful wiring on the driver's side inner fender.
Yes I could go on but it's not polite. It's someone's pride and joy.
And I'm thinking that water shut off is a really nice custom mod. Probably provokes a great deal of conversation at car shows.
That is if it can get there with the plug wires burnt through.

Hello All. This post reminds me of an unfortunate incident that happened to me several years ago concerning my restored '66 Chevy Bel-Air that I let sit for 2-3 years, Unknowned to me, the heater-core leaked, rotted-out the carpet, padding and floor-pan. Paranoid that this might happen again with my '78 Corvette that I bought 2 yrs. ago I decided to totally eliminate the heater-hoses from engine to heater-core. The inlet and outlet on the core are vertical so once you remove the hoses the core drains, it's empty, no danger of leaking. Rather than connecting the feed hose [5/8] to the return hose [3/4] I totally eliminated the heater-hoses. I plugged off the intake fitting rather than risk stripping/ snapping trying to removed it, with a high-quality [18$] silicone reinforced plug. I used a plain brass plug in the new water-pump that I just installed. Not only does this eliminate the potential leak it totally cleans up appearance of the right-front engine compartment [no 2 heater-hoses to distract] Pic attached. Regards, LowSporty

I guess you can call me Bubba. 40 years ago I was trying to reduce the amount of heat that was coming into my 74 L-82 4 speed AC car. I installed a ninety degree fitting in the intake, and attached a quarter turn ball valve to it, to shut the flow of water off from the core in the summer. The whole installation was a little cleaner looking than that set up though.

Personally I find the location of the temperature sending unit somewhat interesting.

72 didn't have a water shut off , saw a lot of that plumbing valve stuff in the late 60's early 70's. When most cars did not have A/C .
