Default Stereo Unit help

Hello, 1982 owner here.
I Have an old custom autosound (USA-5 I think) unit that I want to add an aux to. Specifically, I wanna wire it into the existing Cd changer plug on the back (I know of the many other ways to add aux to this unit, I just wanna try this route).

I found this attached pinout of the connector, which matches what I see on the circuit board. When I add an audio signal to it and select CD on the unit, it says CDC, does nothing for 10 seconds, then says CON before switching back to radio. I have a 3.5mm Aux running its Right+ to pin 6, Right- to pin 8 (also tried Right+ to pin 7 and Right- to pin 3). I have done all the other diagnostic steps as well, I can confirm the unit is working and otherwise I do get sound from tape and radio. I have the feeling that the unit expects some sort of confirmation from the CD changer that it is on and sending audio, but I dont know that for sure. I also dont know what some of these other pins are, eg b-up (aka back-up), or BUS. Anyone have any idea of how to go about this? Thank you

If you're using the vehicle's common ground as the speaker ground most likely that's where you're problem is. You must use the supplied radios speaker ground.

The speaker + and - is connected to the radio properly, I am getting sound out of it if I play radio or tape.

If your not using a Custom Autosound disk changer there may be a proprietary data conflict recognizing the existing CD changer.

Question,
Are you using CD'S that you purchased or CD'S you ripped?
Sometimes when you rip a CD the track data will not be included, MAYBE the head unit requires track data?
Even if you found the circuit that MAY require proprietary authorization, how are you going to "Trick" the existing head unit to except that digital value the CD changer is sending it...
Not sure the head unit you have now has Bluetooth but if it doesn't you might give thought to a Bluetooth adapter.
The one I installed in my 77 cost about $80.00.
Really simple to install as long as your head unit has a signal input like I think your now using for your changer.
You have a input circuit that your trying to use for your CD changer now to head unit you would need a F/M RCA adapter to Bluetooth.
Amazon has good quality cable adapters for about $9.00

Hello, sorry I think you misinterpret what I’m trying to do. I wanna splice a 3.5mm aux into the cd changer port. I have used fm transmitters and tape to aux adapters, but I don’t like the audio quality. Direct aux connection is the only thing I want

If you look on youtube there are a lot of videos how to add aux AND bluetooth modules to most stereos. There are a lot of micro bluetooth buck board aux/bluetooth modules for cheap. Worth looking into. And since you have inputs already, that should make your install easier. Good luck.

I figured it out. I wanted the cd changer option to work bc it’s non invasive and doesn’t change another features of the radio, but I gave up on it. Now I spliced an aux directly into the tapes preamp output

Great. Glad you got something figured out. The only some people have using the tape input is it's generally lower frequency. But if it sounds good to you, then you're golden.

With the newer B/T mods you can keep all yer radio features when yer not using the B/T. But it does involve some radio soldering.

i don’t want BT, shooting for max sound quality. I am having noise interference from the engine/distributor to the radio now tho.
