Default Buying Advice 1978 C3

Hey Guys, I've stepped it up a notch in budget, and looking at this one. it's a 1978, it's in Sweden, so it's a weekend project to go get it, but the seller has been very kind, and send me all these pictures, and 2 videoes i will upload in a sec. the price is 18.000 Dollars. i haven't negotiated price with him yet. I made him take some pic's of the Birdcage, and it seems to look ok? especially on the right side?

Here's picture, and what do you guys think? especially about the price. I hope to get it for 16.000 Dollars

Looks more like a 1980 than a 78 with lots of mods. Why go to Sweden...where are you located? What's the VIN?

It's a St. Louis-built 81, and the VIN is:
1G1AY876XBS419592

It's on a receipt in one of the photos.

Very shiny, and a lot of new parts have been thrown at it.

You won't get those seats in a 78. Other than the one-year-only computerized carb and dist (which may well have been replaced already in this particular car), and that automatic transmission, what is wrong with an 81? I can take my 80 to Radwood, but I can't take my 79, for example.

it is an 81. has 17 digit vin. looks pretty nice at a glance, but if paperwork says 78, even with that 81 vin, i would walk away. the repair receipt did use the 81 vin, so you are probably ok and seller just said the wrong year. ask him for clarification. pic of title. pic of other side of engine and pic of carb with air filter off. want to see if it still has the less than optimal 81 electric controlled carb on it. most have been changed out by now.

'Looks' like a really nice C3. The mounts look pretty darn good. Paint looks nice, and what we see of the underside looks good. But......is it just me, or do those T-tops look like they aren't fitting correctly? Has this one been hit and tweaked? Let us know what you find, and happy hunting! Paul

the diff between a 78 and 81 are not enough to make you not buy the car. differences are details. this car looks good enough. and trust me, we love to scream IT IS A POS!!! RUN!!! FASTER!!! and we usually do. when several of us say it looks good enough to buy, it doesn't suck...

I agree. It looks like a nice car. But I also agree that I would want the 79 down diff. And heavier frame.
I personally also prefer the 77 down rear window. Or "Sugar scoop" roof design. But that is purely a matter of preference.
if the OP says a 81 is to new for him. I say let's respect that and wish him well finding his dream car.
