Hi everyone, name is Mark. Just got a '76 Vette after saving money for years. I used to have a '75 in the mid-90's that ended in tragedy. Loved it but had to let it go. Now that I am older and more experienced I wanted to do it over again, this time doing it right. This one is mostly stock except for Edelbrock intake and carb. And front and rear bumpers. Previous owner installed 80 -82 bumpers, which I personally prefer. Interior is white, which was my preferred color choice. Initial road worthy repairs are complete and now beginning prep for paint. Going dark metallic blue (paint now is crap).
The frame is virtually rust-free, as having been garage stored its whole life. I have torn apart and fixed all the heater box ducting, leaking heater core, replaced the windshield and fixed a small rust spot on the floor where T-top seals were leaking. And of course replaced the T-top seals. Oh, and I converted/installed the steering wheel. No more Vega wheel. I fun project, but not a huge, over-bearing one. Good shape overall if you can overlook the appalling paint work.
white hides a world of sins. keep a couple of bombs of white primer or lacquer around so local drives are not in a 2-tone car. looks good. converting front to 80-82 is a bit of work. not just a bolt-on like the rear bumper.
Nice looking project! You may find that white C3s are just a little bit faster than any other color, but no question that white interiors are cool. Blue on white will look awesome with those bumpers and the sugar scoop window.
Can you take some photos under the hood, too? I'm curious to see how they got the 80-82 nose on. Was it a complete front clip replacement?
Be sure to make the rear window removable while you are doing the paint!
Congrats on the new Vette
Love white interiors! Dash, console and steering column have been dyed/painted white. Do you know what color they were previously?
Share a picture of the trim tag when you get a chance.
I have the means and experience to paint it myself. Only way I could afford it now anyway.
Where is the trim tag? I confess I have never heard of that before. Possibly light saddle although in the 70"s they had a habit of making interior and exteriors the same color
