I was just browsing the local craigslist and found this. It's probably a fake. Any experts here? (I'd say that at least the hood is definitely not the correct one)
the seller needs to pay the owners of motion to verify it.
I'd think that if the seller would do that and it checks out, the price would go up significantly.. That's a 6 figure car when restored IF it checks out to be real.
I'd say that the hood is definitely fake.. That's a mid 70's hood. Baldwin Vettes did not have a mid 70's hood.. The carb also looks like it's not the right one.

the fact the seller has not paid to have it verified tells you the story of the car.
My guess it's someone's version of a tribute of a Baldwin car. While it has some Baldwin characteristics it also has a lot that is not based on internet picture examples. The fact that the owner doesn't know it safe to assume the owner before him also didn't know.

It may also have started out as a real Baldwin but was bastardized after. I'm pretty sure that the hood is not correct. Baldwin cars maintained the wiper door..

I'm going with a big huge "no". The headlight buckets are wrong, those front vents are wrong, there are no side scoops on the rear sails, the from bumper area is wrong, I'm sure there's more, but those are the immediate clues.

Baldwin cars were pretty unique. They weren't all the same. The only thing that is definitely wrong is the hood.. It's likely a fake but who knows..
I agree.. Never saw a single legitimate Baldwin Car that used that type of hood. They all retained the original wiper door and modified the factory hood..

The geometry of those headlight buckets screams "home made". The inner wall is an obstruction of the light. The Baldwin cars have a straighter line from the lens to the bumper, The end further from the corners. I'll see if I can find some pics,
This car has been for sale for quite a while, and I think that the general consensus of people reviewing the ad has been that it is not a true Motion car. Motion valve covers and all of their body parts were available individually from Motion, and many of the body parts were also copied and sold by Eckler's. Though not much of what I see on this car, looks much like the parts used and sold by Motion.
Last I heard Joel Rosen (the man behind Motion Performance), was charging $1500 to certify that a car was actually built by Motion. I would think that would be money well spent, if the seller really believes the car is a Motion Corvette?

Funny you should say that, when I first looked at the pictures I thought the front end screamed Eckler's.

I think he charged $1500 during the 90’s…. He is well into the multithousands now, has been for awhile and that’s just to CHECK! Then if he says its not, your out your money.
As for this car, the valve covers have the wrong lettering on the emblems. Those are some bad copies. It doesn’t look anything like any of the other 69’s that came out of his shop. Yes, all the cars were different but they did have some combination of similar modifications. I remember seeing them when they were actually still driving around the neighborhood.
Also, words matter. He calls this a Baldwin Corvette. That would be any Corvette Baldwin Chevrolet sold. A Motion Corvette could be any Corvette brought to Motion to have modified. A Baldwin-Motion Corvette is what brings in any real money as that is a factory warrantied Motion car invoiced through Baldwin Chevy. Big difference. If this is a “Baldwin” corvette all you have to do is check with NCRS to see who the dealer is and that’s far cheaper then going to Rosen. That’s the start. If it’s not a Baldwin car then your only other chance is an after purchase modification by Motion.
This corvette looks like the typical bad custom.
