Default C4 Seat conversion ...

Ok, I have searched for posts unsuccessfully and I know people have done this, I'm just looking for pic's of the seat bracket mods that were required to adapt C4 seats into a C3, if there are any I'd love to see them.

Inquiring minds want to know

Dave

… and yet …

These are the early C4 sport seats, the bolsters are not as full as the later seats and seem to fit the space, not sure about the height. The seat brackets need to be modified in order to bolt up, I was just trying to get a look at this mod.

I have moved forward at this point, I’ll post some some pics when I finish up.

I fitted early C4 seats into my ‘70. There should be a post in the forum re this. I adapted the seats onto the C3 brackets. The front holes line up but you need to make plates to adapt at the back. The biggest issue is you can’t move the seats back as far because the seat backs are thicker.

I am in the middle of the bracket mod now. We’ll see how things go, if they are too tall I may mount them too the floor direct as another member did in your post, thanks.

I did this and it was not hard. 94-96 seats I believe. Not home now but can get pics for you tomorrow. Basically 2 pieces of aluminum flat stock with appropriate holes to match c3 tracks. They fit fine . will post pics tomorrow.

don't reupholster the seats until you have installed them and climbed in and out over the side bolsters and driven them enough to know you can stand them. even if current upholstery is duct tape.

LOL, I do plan on re-upholstering them but they are in good enough condition to run them for now. If they are as you say, I'll see if they can be re-sculpted to minimize the seat bolster.

Ok so moving forward I thought I would show the seat bracket mods I did after a little reading.

Using the mig (certified welders should cover their eyes) I added a 1/4” plate front and rear, the front is aligned to use the existing track hole as suggested in the previous posts above, the rear is a tab that once the tack is installed this hole will be determined and tapped.

A hole was cut in the bottom plastic housing to allow clearance for the seat slider release mechanism.

The added height is minimal and adds a little more clearance for all my added heat protection.

The adjuster bar was tweaked down a bit for added clearance.

It might need a bit more.

So under the car was a bit of an adventure, really not sure what happened to this car in its past life but wow some **** really messed it up!

The drivers floor pan had a crack in it, that I repaired long ago, but the outside seat mounting plate was missing, same on the passenger side inboard. Using the same 1/4” plate I recreated the plates and installed them.
The bar that runs the distance across the passengers front is also damaged, I drilled the plate on the inboard side and will bolt it in place with a nyloc style nut. I think it’s important to leave some of the cars history to tell the tale on cruise nights.

I just happen to be finishing up some wiring in my '78, so the seats have been in and out a lot lately. Mine was a little simpler to do than yours. I took the aluminum stock, drilled and bolted it to the existing track, still in the original place on the floor. Adjuster also is OEM location. Then I took the seat and placed it on the stock and adjusted it side to side and back as\ far as it would go with the existing track pushed as far back also. Marked 4 holes. Once drilled, I placed the bolts with the heads under the flat stock and bolted them in place. This enabled me to 1) raise the flat stock so that it sits on top of the first set of bolts holding the stock to the track, and it 2) lets me take the seats in and out easily by just undoing the 4 nuts. There is about 5" of headroom, I get as much fore and aft travel as the OEM seats and the side to side clearance couldn't be better. Please don't look at anything else here. The wiring is for the custom harness that I have put into the car, along with some relays under the pass seat. And all those wires in the center are being covers up but a C4 console. I narrowed the C4 arm rest area so that it fits between the seats and married the front part of the console to the heater control section of the C3 dash. A labor of love, about a 6 yr labor to get me to this point along with everything else I have done. . But the seat brackets were easy to do. Good luck with your project.

… and that’s all I got to say about that!

Obviously this is not the permanent console.

So just for those wondering, Derek is not wrong pointing out the elephant in the room, the seat bolsters are up there. This is due to the drop floor pan design of the C4, I will have the seat re upholstered and will address this issue at that time. Thanks for the input Sir.

Honestly I’m not expecting all the functions to work, and there are of course no power tracks, but all the bolster controls are still there so I’ll se what’s what later on.
